JOB POSITION: STARS/NOVA Coordinator
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1. Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in education or technology-related major or 5 years job experience in related field
Valid New Mexico license.
Must be able to pass employment verification.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
SUPERVISOR:Director of Student Data ServicesJOB GOAL:Assist administration and staff in correctly entering, maintaining, and reporting student data. Submit all reports to the
State of New Mexico required for school funding through STARS/NOVA within the Information Management Systems(s)
that may be used by the District. Provide student and school data as necessary for state and federal reporting
purposes. Have an excellent working knowledge of the computer system and network used to produce required
reports, as well as day-to-day skills on the system’s operation and maintenance. Must be knowledgeable with the
District’s approved Information Management System. Under general supervision, the STARS/NOVA Coordinator
reports to the Director of Student Data Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Submit all required STARS/NOVA files correctly within determined reporting period, to PED Data Warehouse.
Provide student data to PED including, but not limited to, extracting student data, preparing and submitting the
required files, reporting results to the Superintendent and department staff for confirmation of accuracy.
Provide assistance and act as a resource person to District staff including but not limited to assistance with report
management information software, SIS software and reports, parent portal software, teacher portal and
gradebook assistance, and word processing and spreadsheet software.
Supervise the student count process; communicate directly with the schools to ensure prompt and accurate
balancing of student counts.
Attend meetings/trainings related to STARS, other Information Management System(s), or to the school system in
general; attend software user’s group meetings to better be able to handle changes in required and desired
computer functions and reports.
Communicate accurately and effectively with district program directors as well as NMPED personnel to ensure
efficient and timely reporting of data.
Ability to work under pressure and with constant interruptions, to multitask, meet deadlines and due dates, and
coordinate with other departments.
Assist with training staff on data entry and maintenance for all aspects of the Student Information System and act
as software help desk.
Ability to train and assist other staff in the use of the primary information system.
Create and maintain data mining reports that use current database to produce useful or need reports for the
school district.
Act as security officer for the computer system, adding, changing, and deleting user profiles and passwords as
deemed necessary.
Write and maintain queries that use the current database to produce useful or needed reports for the school
district.
Install hardware and software updates related to student data.
Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors and administrators.
