Elden Ring Sellia, Town of Sorcery, Torch Puzzle, and Item Locations Guide (2024)

Everything you need to know about Elden Ring’s Sellia, Town of Sorcery, including torch puzzle and item locations, as well as how to reach them.

Sellia, Town of Sorcery, is a little settlement built out of stone near the east bank of the Swamp of Aeonia in Caelid. However, some portions of it have been sealed off with magic.

After retrieving the Unalloyed Gold Needle for Sage Gowry (did you know you can get Sage Gowry’s armor?), he divulges the secret way to break the seals in town.

The Secret of Sellia is that you must jump around on the roofs to light 3 torches. Lighting the 3 torches will break the seal on several chests located throughout the town, along with a pair of larger doors.

One of the doors leads to a miniboss fight, while the other opens the way to Millicent and the Church of the Plague.

Sellia Torch Locations and Rooftop Items

There are 3 torches you need to light that are up in the highrises of Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

You’ll need to do some platforming to leap across the roof and fend off some Marionette and Avionette Soldiers, assuming they haven’t fallen off as a result of their endless gyrations. I highly recommend riding Torrent so that you can make use of his double jump.

Starting Point

I highly recommend combing through town and defeating all of the pesky invisible Sellian Sorcerers and Wannabe Sorcerer Nobles first. It’s easier to do everything when you don’t have to worry about them.

Once you’ve taken care of the local riffraff, head towards the southeastern corner of town, up the hill towards an empty tower with a wind turbine in it. Several Sellian Sorcerers and Nobles are lying in wait, so be careful.

Once you’re there, bring out your horse, Torrent, and use him to double-jump up to the corner of the lowest building.

From there, you can head to both the southern and eastern torches. There’s a teleporting dung beetle up in a branch by the southern tower.

It drops Ash of War: Double Slash. You’ll need to shoot it down with a ranged attack if you want it.

Double Slash is one of the more basic Ashes of War, so you might use it in the early game, but switch to something else as your build develops (we’ve got a list of great builds for Elden Ring you should take a look at for inspiration)

Southern Torch and Stonesword Key

Use Torrent to double-jump onto that roof (from the ground, not this vantage point) and step across the buildings.

There’s a Stonesword Key on the narrow section that you can loot on the way. You can’t see it in the shot, but there’s a ladder up to each tower. You do not have to climb the tree.

Eastern Torch and Cerulean Tear Scarab

From the same starting point as before, go the other direction up the branch. You can reach this tower from a different direction, but this path is way easier.

Once you’re done, climb down and travel across the roofs, heading north toward the Cerulean Tear Scarab headpiece on the roof.

The Cerulean Tear Scarab is a helmet that improves the FP recovery from your Cerulean Tear Flasks.

Northern Torch, Golden Seed, and Staff of Loss

Head towards the lil’ Erdtree with the Golden Seed and jump down onto the branch connecting to the third tower.

Get back onto that wooden branch and look towards the buildings overlooking the Swamp of Aeonia. You’ll see a corpse hanging off a balcony that has the Staff of Loss.

The Staff of Loss is a catalyst that boosts the damage dealt by the Night Sorceries of Sellia.

Drop down and get ready to grab at those newly exposed chests!

What’s Behind Sellia’s Seals

Now that you’ve finished gallivanting around town, setting fires everywhere you go, it’s time to loot!

There are four chests in total. Three of them are behind little seals in town, and one of them is behind a larger seal that requires you to fight a miniboss.

Northwestern Seal and Spelldrake Talisman +1

The northern unsealed chest contains the Spelldrake Talisman +1 and overlooks the Swamp of Aeonia and Sellia Under-Stair Site of Grace. It’s right beneath the Staff of Loss you probably just picked up.

The Spelldrake Talisman +1 is nice for protecting you from magic damage. Good thing you got it after you just wiped out everyone in the Town of Sorcery!

Central Seal and Sorcery: Night Comet

The unsealed chest in the center of town on the main avenue contains the Sorcery: Night Comet.

Night Comet is a Sorcery that is comparable to, but slightly weaker and more expensive than, Glintstone Cometshard. What sets it apart is its invisibility. You can see it, but enemies can’t and won’t dodge it, making it a great alternative to the “Star” Sorceries.

Eastern Outskirts and the Imbued Sword Key

On the eastern edge of the town, basically the back alley, you’ll find an Imbued Sword Key along with a bevy of Sellian Sorcerers and Nobles, presumably taking their dog for a walk.

You can use the Imbued Sword Key to unlock one of the portals at The Four Belfries in western Liurnia.

Lower Unsealed Doorway with Nox Duo and Lusat’s Glintstone Staff

At the northwestern edge of town, you’ll find the lower of the 2 tall doorways blocked by a fog wall.

Inside, you’ll face off against a Nox Monk and Nox Swordstress each wielding a flowing weapon. These are normal enemies later in the game, but they can be challenging depending on how early you fight them.

After you defeat them, you’ll get a Nox Flowing Sword and be able to access the chest beneath a monumental stone throne. The chest contains Lusat’s Glintstone Staff, a special catalyst that makes Sorceries cost more FP and deal more damage.

The Nox Flowing Sword is a curved sword that has a unique skill that allows it to function like a whip, so it has a much longer range than usual.

Other Unique Items in Sellia, Town of Sorcery

There are a few more unique items nearby that I haven’t mentioned yet, including the Rotten Stray Ashes and Redmane Painting, as well as Flock’s Canvas Talisman and Gowry’s Bell Bearing.

Redmane Painting

The Redmane Painting is located in some rubble at the southern end of the main avenue in Sellia.

Rotten Stray Ashes

The Rotten Stray Ashes are located down near some Rotten Strays by the Sellia Under-Stair Site of Grace. Head in the opposite direction of the stairs and you’ll find it on a corpse.

They should’ve put these up at the cemetery behind the Church of the Plague. Could’ve had a Kindred of Rot visiting them…

Flock’s Canvas Talisman and Gowry’s Bell Bearing

In order to obtain the Flock’s Canvas Talisman and Gowry’s Bell Bearing, you must begin Millicent’s quest and either complete it or fight and defeat her. After you’ve satisfied one of those conditions, you’ll find Sage Gowry with one of his hands covering his face.

Only while he’s in this state can you actually end his life. I encourage you to try when he’s not being so dramatic, as well. There are no consequences for attacking him, but you learn something interesting about his relationship to Millicent.

Flock’s Canvas Talisman is arguably the most important Talisman you can equip for Faith-based caster builds because it’s just a flat buff to all of your Incantations.
