The Cozy, Creamy Hot Drink To Warm You Up: the Best Hot White Russian Recipe!
Back when I used to live in Boston, and even further back when I lived in the boonies of Massachusetts (shoutout to Mount Holyoke College!), I did everything I could to chase the cold away: wear layer upon layers of thick clothing, live near the heater, partake in co*cktail libations, and, of course, enjoy a morning hot coffee. Had I known that there was such a thing that could combine all of that? I would’ve jumped right on that train! And by “train” you know I mean drink cart. Think of today’s Hot White Russian recipe as the hot Russian co*cktail to warm you up on those chilly nights (and mornings, and afternoons). This amazing hot white Russian recipe includes piping hot coffee, deep, rich coffee liqueur, a splash of vodka, and the creamy milk or cream of your choice. Topped with a thick layer of whipped topping. Need I say more? Let’s make this!
Everything You Need To Make a White Russian Hot
- Hot coffee
- Coffee liqueur
- Vodka: I like to use plain vodka to make my hot white Russian. However, for a special treat, I’ll break out the whipped cream vodka or even a vanilla or birthday cake vodka. That’ll make your hot Russian co*cktail nice and dessert-worthy.
- Milk or cream: one of my favorite creams to use in my co*cktails is an oatmilk creamer. It’s deliciously creamy and plant-based.
Do I Enjoy the White Russian Hot or Warm?
Should you enjoy your white Russian hot or warm? Well, that’s entirely up to you! You might prefer your hot co*cktails piping hot, or moderately warm. Erik likes his moderately warm as he tends to drink everything too fast and burn his tongue. I like my White Russian as hot as can be so I can slowly, carefully sip and enjoy it.
If you like it hot, just make sure to carefully work quickly. If you like it just warm, you only need to warm the cream/milk ingredient until just warm.
How to Make a Hot White Russian
If you’re totally on point with your morning coffee-making routine, then you’ve got this hot Russian co*cktail in the bag!
Make Hot Coffee
Do you usual coffee thing and brew up a fresh batch of hot coffee. Immediately pour into a glass mug.
Pour in…
Now, we add in the fun stuff. Gently pour in coffee liqueur and vodka. Use a heatproof spoon to slowly stir this all together.
Heat Cream
Heat the milk or cream of your choice in a small saucepan over low heat, or in 10-second increments in the microwave. If you’re using the microwave, make sure to keep a close eye on it, so it doesn’t overboil and spill.
Stir
Stir your warm cream into the glass mug.
Top, Sip & Enjoy
Top your co*cktail with your favorite whipped topping. Optionally, add a dash of cinnamon or cocoa. Sip and enjoy the best hot white Russian recipe!
