Weekly Message from Skyview Admin Team

Happy Friday!

This week we are proud of all the students who took SBA testing and make-up testing seriously the past two weeks. It takes a village to get testing off the ground and we could not do it without the leadership of Mrs. Haver and her team.

Skyview students continue to show how great they are in caring for the school community. This week Dr. Highsmith, substitute assistant principal, commented on how many students take it upon themselves to help out around the school by cleaning the cafeteria and picking up trash floating around the campus. The most important thing we can teach the children is how to respect the house and care for their place of learning. Dr. Highsmith will be with us one more week to support the administration team. Thank you all for welcoming him to our SMS community.

We are two weeks away from the BIG PTSA 8th grade part. Parents are working hard to make it a memorable experience for all students. Do not miss out on the fun.

As we near the end of the school year, the last day of school is onJune 25th. We will continue to encourage students to make good choices and be the soaring eagles we wish them to be at Skyview. The biggest challenges we continue to face are some students not following directions the first time and failing to cooperate with reasonable staff directions. Parents and guardians, I sincerely ask for your support and partnership in reminding your child the importance of respect. Gautama Buddha once said, “Treat every living being, including yourself, with kindness.” We want students to be kind, and respect all of the people.

Parents and families thank you for all that you do for Skyview Middle School. Have a great weekend.

Respectfully,

Skyview Administration

Hello, I am Melton Jefferson, Athletic Director at North Creek High School. I will be hosting an informational meeting at North Creek High School's Main Gym on Thursday, June 6that 6:30pm. Student Chromebook Summer Plans

Students will keep their devices this summer!

Students currently in grades 2-11 will be keeping their assigned computing devices over the summer months to allow for continuous learning. Students and families are expected to take care of their assigned device by keeping it charged and in its bag when not in use. Students who are enrolled in summer learning programs are expected to bring their device to summer programs each day. If families need support using their device or troubleshooting technical issues, they should create a help ticket athttp://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp.

Withdrawing students must turn in devices by June 21.

Families who are withdrawing from Northshore are expected to return any technology devices assigned to their student, including computers, tablets, hotspots and all accessories such as bags and chargers. Our school will be collecting devices from June 14-16 in the Skyview Library. Withdrawing students who do not return their devices and accessories will be issued a fine for replacement. Please contact Skyview Middle School to notify us that you will be leaving the district.

Summer Opt Out of Chromebooks

Families who wish not to keep a device over the summer need to complete this opt out form.
Families may not need or want to take their student’s device home over the summer. Families who wish to opt out of keeping their student’s assigned device will need to indicate that they are “opting out” by completing the form athttps://go.nsd.org/optout. This form will help our staff to plan efficiently for sending devices home for summer learning. When students return to school in the Fall, any student who does not have an assigned device will be assigned one for school year learning.

After-School Activity Campus Expectations

If students plan to stay after school for any reason, theymust be in the library. If they are staying to attend a sports game or competition they can leave the library for the event at 3:30. Roaming the campus, breezeway, academic buildings, fields and/or courtyards is not permitted.

After-School Library Expectations

Students who choose to work in the library after school must follow the following rules:

  1. Whisper if you need to talk. The library is a quiet place for students to work or study.

  2. No eating in the library

  3. No cell phone use in the library. If you must use your cell phone, please step outside of the library.

  4. No gum

  5. Follow all instructions from staff and be respectful to everyone in the library

This week a van parked in our bus lane and caused much disruption to our after school transportation routine. Please do not park in the bus loading area. It is unsafe for our bus drivers to have to load and drop off students. If you see anyone parking in this area please help us remind them to STOP. Thank you in advance.

  • Please do NOT use the parking lot to park and drop off your student(s).We have students and staff walking through the parking lot and it creates a dangerous situation with people trying to back up and turn around. Please ONLY use the drop-off loop. Be sure to pull all the way forward and keep traffic moving.

  • Please do NOT drop off or pick up your students in the bus parking lot(between the tennis courts and baseball fields)before school, after school, or after athletic practices/events.This interferes with our buses and their ability to maneuver. It is also a safety concern for students.

  • Safety is our number one priority, so please help us keep everyone safe bylimiting distractionswhile you are driving andslowing down.

  • We have had several reports ofstudents riding their bikes in the street. Please review thebike safety tipswith your students.

  • Pleasefollow all posted signageandbe respectful of our neighbors.

Warmer temperatures and sunny days are definitely on their way, so too is the urge to start heading outside where sports and outdoor activities abound. It’s a good time to talk about applying sunscreen when out of doors. Did you know your child can use sunscreen at school?

The official RCW code is as follows from OSPI:

Sunscreen:

Washington state law allows students to bring and self-administer topical sunscreen at school and school events without written permission from a health care provider. Sunscreens that are lotions or sticks are appropriate for school. Do not send spray or aerosol sunscreens to school. Please remind students not to share their sunscreen with others. (RCW 28A.210.278)

Additionally, it is expected students will be able to:

· apply their own sunscreen to themselves, staff/others cannot be expected to apply sunscreen to a student.

· avoid highly fragrant lotions or sticks, no sprays.

· not share their sunscreen with others to prevent cross contamination or unintended allergies (skin or otherwise) another student with allergens may not be aware are in the product ingredients.

· bring their own sunscreen from home – schools do not stock nor provide sunscreen for student use while at school.

Coming soon:

Missing Tdap letters will be coming home in the mail in the next few weeks to those 6thgrade students who need a Tdap vaccine before the start of the next school year, fall 2023. If you receive one of these letters in home mail, your student will need a Tdap vaccine over the summer before starting school next fall. Please follow the instructions in the missing Tdap letter.
