Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 Best Summons

From dryads to dogs and everything in between, we rank the best summons in Baldur's Gate 3.

These are a few of the best combinations that we've found, but since Baldur's Gate 3 prioritizes creative gameplay, there are probably hundreds more ways to use each item in tandem with others to help you get past any tricky enemies. Hopefully, this list gives you a good starting place for how to start thinking like a real Baldur's Gate 3 pro.

9 Arrow Of Fire + Explosive Barrel

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (2)

This strategy requires a high carrying capacity, so if you're weaker, you may have to rely on the surrounding environment to pull it off. But if you're strong enough to pick up and carry explosive barrels (Firewine, Oil, Smokepowder), you can rig any battlefield to your advantage before starting your attack.

By piling up explosives and then detonating them at a distance, you should be able to take out a good chunk of lower-level enemies at once, perhaps even higher-level enemies, depending on how many explosives you have. If you don't have any Fire Arrows on hand, you can easily create one by using Dip on any burning surface.

You can also fill a bag with multiple explosives (such as Smokepowder bombs) to increase the damage dealt in the AOE.

8 Dagger + Ring Of Flinging

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (3)

For those of you that didn't know, throwing a weapon from a higher point down onto an enemy below will net you higher damage. Of course, you don't want to throw your magical, or otherwise powerful, weapons around in case they get lost. That's where the plain daggers that you can find on half the enemies in the game come in handy.

Collect enough of these daggers, and you'll have a small arsenal to throw at enemies, giving yourself another option besides weapon, arrow, or magic. Then you can use the Ring of Flinging to increase your damage to 1d4 for all thrown objects.

This combination can be performed with other weapons, such as Handaxes, or with items like chests. You also do more damage the higher your strength is and the heavier the object you throw is. Get creative!

7 Snowburst Ring + Hoarfrost Boots

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (4)

When you're causing cold damage, the Snowburst Ring creates a 15-foot circle of Ice around your target. The Hoarfrost Boots, on the other hand, make it so that you can't fall prone when walking on ice. For a magic-user who wants to specialize in ice, this is a great combination. This way, your enemies will fall over and left and right while you can still attack.

Baldur's Gate 3: 9 Best Illithid Powers

These are the best Illithid powers you can obtain in Baldur's Gate 3.

You can find Hoarfrost Boots in the Inquisitor's Chamber, inside of Crèche Y'llek in the second part of Act 1. You can then find the Snowburst Ring under a loose plank at Last Light Inn, in Act 2.

The Disintegrating Nightwalkers also give you immunity to slipping on ice (and slipping on Grease, and being Ensnared, Enwebbed, and Entangled). If you really want to commit to a cold build, we also recommend Winter's Clutches (gloves) and a Coldbrim Hat.

6 Broodmother's Revenge + Derivation Cloak

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (6)

Every time you successfully poison a creature, the Derivation Cloak will heal you for 1d4. Every time you're healed, the Broodmother's Revenge will then coat your weapon in poison. It's a vicious cycle that will keep you poisoning enemies and healing yourself as long as you're able to kick it off by poisoning your first enemy.

Broodmother's Revenge can be found on Kagha in Act 1, or it can be found in Act 3 in the High Hall of the Watch Citadel. The cloak can be found in Act 2 in Balthazar's room in Moonrise Towers

To commit to a poisoner's build, you can add the Poisoner's Robe, Poisoner's Gloves, and the Poisoner's Ring.

5 Surgeon's Subjugation Amulet + Killer's Sweetheart

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (7)

After killing a creature, the ring, Killer's Sweetheart, gives you a reaction that can make your next Attack Roll a critical hit. The Amulet gives you the option to paralyze a humanoid on a Critical Hit. This combination, both only available once per Long Rest, means you can choose a target to paralyze, which makes all of your attacks Critical Hits.

Both of these items are found in Act 2. The ring is found completing the Self-Same Trial in the Gauntlet of Shar, and the Amulet is worn by Marcus Thorm in the House of Healing.

This is a good combination for players who are looking to make a build that maximizes Critical Hits.

4 Ring Of Regeneration + Reviving Hands

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (8)

Each turn, the Ring of Regeneration will activate and heal you for 1d4 points. The gloves, then, apply Blade Ward and Death Ward to creatures (you) that have been healed. With this combination, you'll basically be granting yourself three free actions for no cost.

Baldur's Gate 3: Every Permanent Bonus In The Game And How To Get Them

We look at all the permanent bonuses in Baldur's Gate 3, what they do, and how to get them.

Both of these items are found in Act 3, so you'll have to wait if you want to make use of this combination. The ring can be bought from either Rolan or Lorroakan, depending on who's still alive, in Sorcerous Sundries. And the gloves can be bought from Vicar Humbletoes in the Lower City.

Broodmother's Revenge, which adds poison to your weapon each time you heal, is a good addition to this combination.

3 Hearthlight Bomb + Holy Water

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (10)

You'll get the most distance out of this combination in Act 2, fighting creatures that have advantages when obscured and are also weak to Radiant Damage. The Hearthlight Bomb will bathe a 30 ft radius in light for ten turns, which will reveal enemies (like the Shadows). Then, Holy Water will do 3d6 Radiant Damage.

Once you've deployed the Holy Water, you'll also be left with a Water surface. This can be used to enhance Cold or Lightning attacks by creating a frozen or electrified surface.

If you're looking to create a Radiant build, try the Luminous Armor, Luminous Gloves, Coruscation Ring, Holy Lance Helm, and Callous Glow Ring.

2 Pyroquikness Hat + Helldusk Armor

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (11)

You do need to be proficient in Heavy Armor to use this combination, but if you are, and you're prioritizing fire damage, the Helldusk Armor is a must. Primarily because it prevents you from being Burned and grants resistance to Fire Damage. Which means that you can take advantage of the Pyroquikness Hat's extra bonus action without the punishment of Burning yourself while triggering.

The hat is in Act 3, in the Sorcerous Vault, in an invisible chest, and the Helldusk Armor can be taken from the House of Hope.

Other items that could complement a fire build are Cinder Shoes, Ring of Self Immolation, Thermoarcanic Gloves, and Fireheart.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 9 Best Item Combinations (12)

By Dashing, you can gain three lightning charges while wearing the Speedy Lightfoot boots; it's the easiest piece of equipment to gain those charges with. Then, the Jolty Vest can use those charges to Shock any enemies that deal you melee damage (providing they fail a Dex Saving Throw).

This combination converts passive charges into actions. The Jolty Vest is found in Act 1, and it's sold by Brem in the Zhentarium Hideout. The boots are found in the Blighted Village.

If you're looking to maximize Lightening Charges add The Sparkle Hands, The Blast Pendant, the Lifebringer, and The Real Sparky Sparkswall.
